Two men losing their lives in an attack on a Jewish house of worship in Manchester have been identified by authorities as Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66.

Three others remain in hospital with critical wounds after Jihad Al-Shamie used an automobile into pedestrians before stabbing others on Thursday.

The violent incident, which authorities have declared was a terrorist incident, took place during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish tradition.

The perpetrator, who was killed by police at the site, was a thirty-five-year-old UK national of Syrian background who was not on record to counter terrorism police, as stated by official statements.

Official Statements

"Right now our hearts are shattered," the UK's Chief Rabbi commented.

In an interview with a prominent media outlet, he remarked: "Yesterday's events was a terrible shock to us, something which we had apprehensions regarding might happen because of the preceding circumstances."

The attack was not only "a profoundly troubling moment" for Jewish citizens nationwide "but for everyone in our country," he added.

Security Measures

"Our obligation is to make sure our Jewish citizens, our residents can conduct their daily activities with protection and peace of mind," a cabinet minister announced.

"I do not want Jewish citizens in our country to feel like they have to live a reduced Jewish identity, that they cannot go about their business and observe their religion and visit their worship places in liberty," she stated.

The perpetrator was not known to terrorism investigators, she informed news organizations, and it was "premature" to say if there was a organized group behind the attack.

Police Inquiry

The law enforcement inquiry was "progressing rapidly" and there was an enhanced security deployment at synagogues across the UK.

"Funding is available for protective measures," the representative commented, adding: "It will be necessary to examine what more we can do to address rising antisemitism."

Law enforcement officials said they were assisting the relatives of the two deceased individuals.

"My deepest sympathies are with the families of the victims at this incredibly difficult period," the lead investigator stated.

He indicated that specialized support personnel were in touch with relatives and would maintain assistance through the coronial process.

"Whilst there are processes which must be followed, we pledge to remain sensitive of cultural preferences and sensitivities and to ensuring that the deceased and their loved ones' wishes are honored," he said, stating that the two men were from Crumpsall.

Post-mortems are being conducted on the following day, per official sources.
