Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since March of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's defensive play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

He defended four initial break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
